Top 6 Ang Mo Kio Hub Cafes Where I Learned to Love Coffee

I used to be a juice-and-soda kind of person. Coffee just never clicked with me—too bitter, too strong.

But that all changed when I moved near Ang Mo Kio Hub. With so many cafés around the area, it felt like I couldn’t escape the smell of roasted beans and frothy lattes.

At some point, curiosity (and a bit of FOMO) got the better of me.

I started slow—an iced latte here, a matcha coffee fusion there. Before I knew it, I was hopping from café to café. Some days it was a creamy flat white, other days it was a strong iced black to keep me going. I get the hype now.

So if you’re around Singapore’s AMK Hub and want to know where to get your caffeine fix (or just a good sandwich and air-con), here are some of my go-to cafés that turned me into a convert.

1. Professor Brawn Cafe

Must-order: Milo Freeze

Started by a group of parents and friends who wanted more opportunities for people with special needs, Professor Brawn Cafe has grown into a legit social enterprise with a real heart.

Most of the team includes adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, or hearing loss—supported by ARC(S)’s job coaches—but you’d never think of them as trainees.

They take orders, prepare plates, chat with guests, and handle operations with the confidence of any polished café crew. That alone makes it special, but what keeps people coming back is the genuinely good drinks.

I went for the Milo Freeze and was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing it was. It came thick and creamy, with blended Milo powder, condensed milk, and crushed ice—it felt so nostalgic!

Their Iced Caramel Macchiato was just as enjoyable. It had smooth espresso layered over cold milk, finished with a drizzle of buttery caramel syrup.

Pro Tip: Use your CDC vouchers here—they’re accepted!

2. AM:PM Cafe

Must-order: Summer Holiday

While they’re known for their waffle-and-ice-cream combo, AM:PM Café also impresses with their drinks.

We came here late on a Friday (they’re open till midnight on weekends!) and were met with friendly staff and swinging seats.

What I loved most was the creativity behind their beverages. I tried the Iced Matcha x Expresso, which is earthy matcha mixed with an espresso shot over ice, lightly sweetened with milk.

My partner, who usually watches her sugar, went for the Summer Holiday—a cold brew vineyard peach tea infused with different summer fruits. It was floral and not overly sweet, making it a good choice for humid evenings.

Pro Tip: Follow their social media for promos. You’ll often find seasonal discounts announced there first.

3. Boon Cafe

Must-order: Hojicha Latte

Hidden deep inside ITE College Central, Boon Café is easy to miss, but if you do find it, you’re in for a quiet surprise.

It’s pretty minimalist with their white walls, pale wood, and a seating layout that almost feels like an exam hall. Everyone faces one direction.

While the space might feel plain, the menu is anything but.

The Hojicha Latte is pretty popular for its toasty, nutty depth, made with roasted green tea powder, fresh milk, and just a touch of sugar to round it out.

Their White Coffee is quite the comfort drink, too. The staff mix espresso with steamed milk and condensed milk for a creamy finish.

If you’re feeling peckish, don’t skip their Tom & Jerry-inspired Cheesy Cheesecake. It’s shaped like a cartoon wedge of Swiss cheese, with a light, whipped texture.

Each slice comes with a Biscoff base and a choice of white or dark chocolate sauce, depending on the flavour you pick.

Pro Tip: Prices go up by $1 if you’re not an ITE student, so plan accordingly.

4. Monday Coffee

  • Saturday and Sunday – 9 AM to 5:30 PM

Must-order: Iced Butterscotch Latte

Monday Coffee Bar has got these big communal tables on one side, cosy counters with charging ports on the other, and just enough seating to feel busy without being crammed.

It’s a space that welcomes all kinds of regulars: students on laptops, aunties grabbing Kaya Toast, and couples catching up over coffee.

I ordered their Ice Butterscotch Latte, which managed to be really creamy. It’s filled with espresso, milk, and housemade butterscotch syrup that has a warm, caramel-like richness.

To end on something fizzy, my partner got their Merry Melon Cream Soda. Inspired by Japanese cream sodas, this drink brings together strawberry and melon syrup with milk and soda water.

Pro Tip: Avoid lunchtime. That’s when the cafe gets packed fast.

5. No Horse Run Cafe

Address: Blk 202 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, #01-1682
Phone: +65 9390 7119
Hours:

  • Monday – Closed
  • Tuesday to Sunday – 10 AM to 10 PM

Must-order: Kopi O

No Horse Run Café may sound cheeky in name, but it’s built on serving up creative drinks and homemade desserts with zero pretension.

The name itself is a nod to the Hokkien phrase “bo beh zao,” meaning there’s no competition because the founders wanted to create a space that didn’t need to prove itself through trends.

Their Rootbeer Float with Vanilla Gelato was a trip down memory lane. The root beer was fizzy and cold, while the scoop of vanilla gelato melted into it, giving that sweet old-school cream soda vibe.

What really brought the retro aesthetic full circle was their take on Kopi O—strong, robust black coffee brewed the traditional way using dark roasted beans and a cloth sock filter, served with just a touch of sugar.

Pro Tip: Go for the Weekday Value Lunch Set to get a free choice of drink!

6. Meadowbrewsg

Hours:

  • Saturday and Sunday – 8 AM to 6 PM

Must-order: This Apartment

At first glance, Meadowbrew looks like just another coffee window tucked beneath an HDB flat. But if you’re into small-batch beans and indie coffee culture, this little corner might just be your new favourite haunt.

Behind the bar is Mus, a long-time figure in Singapore’s third-wave coffee scene. After years of brewing behind the counter at various cafes, he’s finally poured his experience into a cafe of his own.

The Ripple Latte (a raspberry-vanilla milk coffee hybrid) brings nostalgic vibes, like a grown-up version of those old-school raspberry ripple ice creams.

Their signature drink, “This Apartment,” uses orange and vanilla to brighten a chocolatey base with cherry notes. And for those craving earthier flavours, the Matcha Strawberry is both generously portioned and well-priced.

Pro Tip: Buy 10 cups and you’ll score the next one free!
