A First-Timer’s Guide to Henderson Waves in Singapore and Why It Belongs on Your Nature Walk List

When I decided to take some time to travel solo, I figured I’d start with my own country and explore what Singapore had to offer.

After visiting places like the Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands SkyPark, Henderson Waves was next on my list.

I remember taking in the view and breathing in the fresh air. I even threw on my noise-cancelling headphones to block out everything else and just focus on the moment.

The height of the bridge caught me off guard—at first, I felt a bit queasy—but once I settled in, the experience was incredible.

The bridge’s location in the heart of a lush, natural forest gives you a unique sense of peace and space. It’s where you can just pause, relax, and enjoy the stunning surroundings.

If you’re planning to check it out, I’ve got some tips to help you make the most of your visit!

Where is Henderson Waves?

Henderson Waves is located in southern Singapore. It is bounded by Mount Faber Park to the north, Telok Blangah Hill Park to the south, and Henderson Road to the east.

How to Get to Henderson Waves

By Bus: Take Bus 131, 145, or 176 and alight along Telok Blangah Road or Henderson Road. From the bus stop, follow the signs toward either Telok Blangah Hill Park or Mount Faber Park—both lead to the bridge via a short walk.

By MRT: Ride the MRT to Redhill Station (EW18) on the East-West Line. From there, you can take a quick bus ride or taxi to the Telok Blangah Hill Park entrance, which connects directly to the bridge.

By Taxi: Book a taxi or use a ride-hailing app like Grab. Enter “Henderson Waves” as your destination. Most drivers will drop you off at the entrance to Telok Blangah Hill Park, just a few minutes’ walk from the bridge.

By Private Car: Set your GPS to “Telok Blangah Hill Park Carpark.” Limited parking is available there. Alternatively, you can park at Mount Faber and walk along the trail to reach Henderson Waves.

Best Time to Go to Henderson Waves

The best time to visit Henderson Waves is early in the morning when it’s cooler and less crowded. This is the ideal time for birdwatchers to enjoy the sights.

For afternoon visits, go before sunset for a stunning view of the city. At night, the bridge lights up beautifully from 7 PM to 2 AM.

Henderson Waves, part of Southern Ridges, offers a unique vantage point for birdwatching enthusiasts.

I’ve learned that the bridge’s elevated position provides clear views of the surrounding forested areas, an ideal spot for observing various bird species. Interestingly enough, during the migratory season, the region becomes a hotspot for raptor sightings.

Birdwatchers in Singapore have the opportunity to spot species such as the Oriental Honey-buzzard and the Black Baza, which are known to pass through Singapore’s airspace during this period.

The area is even home to a diverse range of resident birds, including the White-bellied Sea Eagle and the Black-winged Kite!

I’d say this bridge is a photographer’s dream, since it gives you striking architectural design, plus a breathtaking natural beauty.

The bridge’s unique, awe-inspiring structure shows its dynamic lines and curves that make for compelling daytime shots, especially during the golden hours of sunrise or sunset.

From the bridge, you can capture sweeping views of the surrounding greenery and the city’s skyline, giving your photos a blend of urban and natural landscapes.

The staff suggested taking nighttime pictures since the bridge lights up with LED lighting from 7 PM to 2 AM, creating this beautiful, dramatic effect.

I also noticed that the glowing lines and curves against the dark sky offer a completely different visual experience, great for capturing atmospheric shots.

The Southern Ridges is a 10-kilometer trail that stretches through southern Singapore, connecting several parks like Mount Faber, Telok Blangah Hill, and Labrador Nature Reserve.

It’s filled with a combination of lush greenery, scenic views, and amazing infrastructure, such as Henderson Waves itself!

I personally love how accessible the trail is. It’s not too challenging, making it a good choice for anyone wanting to enjoy nature without committing to a strenuous hike.

The various parks along the way also offer plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the scenery, whether you’re looking for a quiet moment by the sea or a shady path through the forest.

Arbora @ Mount Faber Peak is popular for its unique dining experience with its panoramic views of Singapore’s skyline.

The cafe’s elevated position makes it a prime spot for both city lovers and nature enthusiasts, especially as the sun sets, painting the sky in vibrant hues.

Customers I’ve spoken to described how relaxing the atmosphere is here, all because of the great food, while looking out at such an incredible view.

For drinks, I’ve noted that the Singapore Sling is a refreshing choice. Made with gin, cherry brandy, and tropical juices, it’s the ideal beverage to enjoy while soaking in the stunning vistas.

If you’re craving something more filling, the Half Lobster Laksa is a must–try. With its rich, spicy broth and tender lobster, it’s a more decadent take on the classic.

At Old Habits Cafe, nostalgia is definitely on the menu. The decor feels like a time capsule, with vintage trinkets from the 80s and 90s, like old lamps and quirky little statues.

I absolutely adore the cafe’s charming vibe. It’s a great place to just sit back and enjoy comfort food.

A meal you should try is the Homemade Mushroom Soup. It’s a creamy blend of button white mushrooms, shiitake, and a touch of truffle oil that brings everything together.

And then there’s the dessert. Filled with shredded coconut, the Old Habits Coconut Kueh Bread pudding is served warm with vanilla bean ice cream that complements the sweetness.

Known for serving up flavorful Thai dishes, Sisaket Thai Food is a small hawker stall that has built a loyal following over the years.

Managed by a Thai couple, the stall is beloved for its generous portions and affordable prices, making it a go-to spot for anyone craving authentic Thai flavors in a casual setting.

For something savory, the Garlic Chicken is a dish you can’t miss. Served with a fried egg and rice, the chicken is coated in a rich, garlicky sauce that balances well with the tender meat.

But what I love most about Sisaket is their directness—there’s no need for fancy decor or gimmicks when the food speaks for itself.

Located about a 10-minute drive from Henderson Waves, Alexandra Central is a quiet shopping mall that has a variety of personal care services, like full-body massages, and affordable haircuts—great for a quick refresh or some weekend self-care.

If you get hungry while you’re there, the mall has a few casual spots for a bite. And just across the street is Alexandra Village Food Center, where you’ll find more local food options to round out your visit.

Parking was surprisingly easy to find, too, and with the first hour free, it made dropping by even more convenient.

I also took note of how this place isn’t overcrowded, so it’s a nice corner to shop without the usual chaos of bigger malls.

FairPrice Telok Blangah is a handy shop for when you need to grab something quick. It’s a smaller supermarket, but it has all the essentials, from snacks to household items.

I noticed how convenient it is to stop by, especially with its 24-hour opening hours.

The prices are also quite reasonable, which should make it easy to keep adding stuff to your basket.

While the selection of fresh produce isn’t as extensive as larger supermarkets, you can usually find what you need here.

Hotel Faber Park is situated at the base of Mount Faber, an excellent choice for those who want a peaceful stay with beautiful views of the surrounding greenery.

Guests frequently mention how much they enjoy the breakfast, which features a variety of options to satisfy different tastes.

From what I’ve gathered, visitors also appreciate the modern amenities, including a rooftop pool that provides great views of the park and city.

While the rooms may be on the smaller side, the combination of comfort, convenience, and stunning surroundings makes it a good choice for a short stay.

Travelodge Harbourfront is known for its modern, sleek design and chic rooms. It could definitely be seen through their glass-enclosed bathrooms and contemporary decor, which gives the hotel a more sophisticated feel.

I’ve learned from past patrons that some rooms come with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering expansive views of the area.

The hotel also provides 24-hour room service, so whether it’s breakfast in bed or a late-night snack, you’re covered. The outdoor pool is another nice touch to cool off after a day of exploring the city.

Found within a mall, the Momentous Hotel Alexandra is super convenient for guests who want to combine shopping with their stay.

The hotel’s location also makes it easy to step out and explore, with a lot of the top tourist attractions being a bus away.

When staying here, you’ll see that the rooms are simple, but you can always upgrade for a view of the city.

But what really seems to impress guests is the rooftop rotisserie, which I’ve been told is a favorite, with delicious roasts and wood-fired pizzas that make for a great dinner.

The poolside bar and grill are also a hit. They’re a nice spot for drinks or a casual meal while swimming away your stress.
