Top 7 Bomboloni Shops in Singapore That Might Just Break Your Diet

Lately, my feed has been filled with these fluffy, sugar-dusted doughnuts oozing with cream—it’s been really bad for my cravings.

It’s funny because we all grew up with those $1 sugar doughnuts from the neighbourhood bakery. But these bombolonis are like the European cousins who studied abroad and came back with an accent.

They’re still pretty similar, but now they come with silky custard, rich chocolate, and sometimes even pistachio cream. Bomboloni are just a tad bit fancier, and I was curious to see if they live up to the hype.

I found a few favourites that nailed that soft dough, generous filling, and just the right amount of sweetness to leave your fingers sticky.

Here’s my round-up of the best bomboloni in Singapore—because if we’re going to give in to temptation, we might as well make it worthwhile.

Must-order: Earl Grey Blueberry

A friend of mine had just moved into the area and wouldn’t stop raving about the bomboloni at Doughnut Shack. After hearing about them for the third time in a week, I finally gave in.

Apparently, this shop is known for their wide assortment of creative flavours that rotate monthly, so there’s always something new to come back for.

I personally loved the Earl Grey Blueberry! It was lightly floral, with a touch of fruitiness, and not overpowering at all.

Then I tried the Crème Brûlée, and I don’t think I’ve ever inhaled custard filling that fast. The caramelised top even had a nice crack to it, like the dessert version of ASMR.

What stood out the most was how restrained the flavours were. Nothing was too sweet or heavy-handed. The dough was light, pillowy, but never overstuffed.

Pro Tip: Follow their social media to catch the monthly flavour drop lineup.

2. Burnt Ends Bakery

Must-order: Milo Dinosaur

We often talk about Burnt Ends, and it’s mostly due to their hard-earned reputation. But this time, the Michelin-starred restaurant turns its attention to something more playful: gourmet bomboloni.

I’ve learned that these aren’t your average doughnuts. The dough is rich and buttery, almost like a brioche, giving each bite that golden chew and soft crumb you’d expect from a bakery with serious chops.

I personally love the concept of the flavours being well-known yet reimagined and clearly crafted with finesse.

A really good example would be the Milo Dinosaur. It was chocolatey and nostalgic; it honestly reminded me of everyone’s childhood drink without veering into sugar overload.

But I also have to give props to the Passionfruit Curd, it’s a best-seller because of its sharp, zesty brightness that cuts through the richness of the dough.

Pro Tip: Pop in early since lots of the popular bombolini are sold out after a while.

3. Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar

Must-order: Kaya

Hidden inside this warm bistro better known for its brunch plates and cocktails, I noticed a modest tray of doughnuts sitting quietly by the counter. Just two flavours that day: Kaya and Chocolate Cream.

I started with the Kaya—and it completely surprised me. The dough was soft, and the kaya filling had that sweet homemade taste. The light Chocolate Cream was equally satisfying, while both are perfect with a cup of hot coffee!

It’s not a bomboloni spot by trade, but if you’re already there for brunch, do yourself a favour and pick one up on the way out.

Pro Tip: Try the bombolini with their Iced Matcha Latte! It brings in a good contrast to the pastries.

4. Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery

Hours: Daily – 10:30 AM to 9 PM

Must-order: Matcha Black Sesame

Sourbombe Artisanal Bakery is a place that likes to experiment with their flavours! They’re the first in Singapore to make bomboloni with sourdough, and the result is an addictive chewy and tangy bite.

You get this light, airy sourdough shell that still holds its shape even after chilling in the fridge, and then the filling just melts in.

I recommend their Matcha Black Sesame, its flavour was pretty earthy and nutty, yet it still had a nice aftertaste. On the other hand, Strawberry Milk was so sweet and creamy, I had to get another piece.

Pro Tip: Try buying their Minis. It’s ideal if you want to taste multiple flavours without going overboard.

5. Kobashi

  • Sunday – 10 AM to 3 PM

Must-order: Nutty Rocher

Kobashi is another spot that makes sourdough doughnuts, and they’re chunky in the best way. They feel a bit more substantial than the usual bomboloni, but still soft and chewy.

I started off with the Nutty Rocher—it’s like a Ferrero Rocher turned into a doughnut. It was extremely rich, chocolatey, and had this nice little crunch inside.

Then I ordered the Koicha Matcha, which was really bold. It was more bitter and earthy, not the sweet kind of matcha you usually get, but I actually really liked it.

What I appreciated most was that nothing felt overly sweet or heavy. Each flavour was smooth, and the sourdough itself had a nice tang.

Pro Tip: Watch out for their seasonal Luscious Longan Apple flavour. It comes with a taste of longan ceylon tea and apple jam!

6. Puffs & Peaks

Hours:

  • Wednesday to Sunday – 10 AM to 5 PM

Must-order: 70% Chocolate

I’d say Puffs & Peaks is like a neighbourhood bakery. It’s a small spot run by a mother-daughter duo, and it’s super homey.

The menu isn’t huge, but their doughnuts have been spot-on. The 70% Chocolate bomboloni from this shop is absolutely delectable—easily my fave so far.

Pro Tip: Cling-wrap and refrigerate leftovers—most doughnuts keep well for up to 3 days and can be reheated before enjoying.

7. The Fat Kid Bakery

  • Saturday – 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Sunday – Closed

Must-order: Spicy Egg Mayo

Some bakeries are good for a one-time try, but The Fat Kid Bakery is a place I kept thinking about. It’s run by a self-taught baker, Ariel Tang, and her effort and experience have shone through, earning her a steady fan base.

I didn’t know that bomboloni can actually be savoury! Fat Kid offers a Spicy Egg Mayo bomboloni that’s meant to mimic the classic egg sandwich taste. It’s a bit weird for me, but still a popular item.

Pro Tip: Since they have limited seating, get your food to go and chill at Ann Siang Hill Park.
