Apex Math Tuition’s founder, Alvin Au, is a double-degree graduate from the National University of Singapore. He has been tutoring batches after batches of students since 2008.

He specialises in teaching secondary-level mathematics, including IP, O-level, IB, GEP, N(A)-level, and N(T)-level. We discovered that instead of just focusing on a student’s present difficulties, he delves into their past struggles and identifies any gaps in understanding.

However, he runs his learning centre alone, so he accepts a limited number of pupils per class.

Eipimath was founded by Luo Xingqun, a graduate of the Singapore Management University with first-class honours in economics and actuarial science.

He teaches various math levels, including secondary levels O-level and A Math, and pre-university levels IB and A-level. We think he’s the ideal tutor if you’re seeking flexible programmes for seamless transition from one level to another.

He caters to students with different learning preferences, offering both one-to-one and group classes. Even better, you have the option to choose between in-person or online learning sessions via Zoom.

Just note that his 1:1 rates are relatively expensive, according to some previous clients we spoke to.

Math Lobby’s founders, Nigel Yap and Vivienne Kai, boast nearly three decades of combined teaching experience. Despite launching only in 2023, they’ve delivered great results through their Singapore MOE-accredited syllabus.

Their teaching styles align with national standards, focusing on the concrete-pictorial-abstract approach for deep mastery. We discovered that this helps familiarise pupils with math exam formats.

When it comes to the actual service, they specialise in secondary math subjects, from sections one to four, G3 and G2 maths, to sections three to four A- and E-maths.

According to students, they teach exam strategies and problem-solving skills and provide commonly tested questions and concepts.

We were impressed by the comprehensive level of programmes they offer, from primary and secondary to junior college maths. All lessons are available either in-person or online via Zoom.

Even better, they have over 10 math specialists with diverse expertise. If a student doesn’t grasp a concept from one tutor, another teacher can offer a different perspective or method that better suits their learning style.

However, some clients we spoke to reported that the classes fill up fast.

Math Academy was co-founded by professionals Ian Ang and Jolyn Ang in 2001. Ian is a first-class honours degree holder in pure mathematics, while Jolyn is a former MOE teacher. Together, they’ve served over 1,000 students since the centre’s founding.

They offer several math tutoring services, including JC H2, H1, sections three to four A maths, sections three to four E maths, and sections one to two G3 maths.

To ensure effectiveness, they’ve developed structured curricula that come with a complete set of notes and worksheets. The materials meticulously summarise commonly seen examination concepts. 

That said, we find them less suitable for those seeking personalised attention.

On the flipside, students appreciate the centre for providing video recordings after every lesson, allowing them to study at their own pace.
