Say bye-bye to sunburn with these 8 spots for indoor picnics in Singapore!

The first thing that typically comes to mind when the word “picnic” is uttered is the great outdoors, but with Singapore’s hit-or-miss weather forecast, you’d be taking a gamble.

But for just a moment, let’s throw out the archaic definition of what a picnic should be and move toward bringing it in the shade where you’re reasonably safe from the elements.

Yes, we’re talking about having a picnic indoors, and these places we’ve gathered up allow you to do just that, so grab your picnic baskets all the same and head on over to these spots!

KozyNNice

Website: https://kozynnice.com/

Address: 239 Jln Besar, Level 2
Contact Details: +65 9659 7974

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11 AM – 11 PM

One of the best places to have an indoor picnic is in your own private room at KozyNNice.

This little location near Farrer Park MRT station allows you to chill on the sofa with your friends while watching Netflix movies or playing games on the Nintendo Switch.

The place gets high ratings for being well-kept, which means you’re neither going to find leftover crumbs nor smell anything weird throughout the rooms.

The rooms are also well-ventilated thanks to the nice and cold air conditioning. Pair this up with what they call “KOZY” blankets and you’re surely in for a cozy time indeed.

Of course, all of this comes with a cost. The Deluxe room that can fit up to 4 people costs S$60 per 2 pax, while the Premium Room for 6 people costs S$109 per 4 pax.

Address: 78 Airport Blvd., Jewel Changi Airport
Contact Details: +65 6220 2623

Operating Hours: Open 24 hours

You don’t want to miss a picnic spot like Shiseido Forest Valley, which is actually located within Singapore’s very own Jewel Changi Airport.

While a picnic at an airport might sound unusual to some, checking out this indoor forest is sure to change your mind because of how conducive the surroundings are.

Filled with beautiful greenery and adequate air conditioning, it’s a top pick for when you’re looking for someplace nice and cool to just enjoy the flora around you.

Of course, this spot is also known for the HSBC Rain Vortex, a 40-meter indoor waterfall that’s one of the tallest in the world, which is the perfect centerpiece for the renowned airport.

Shiseido Forest Valley also spans 5 storeys and has plenty of benches around the area. However, keep in mind that it’s still located in a pretty busy airport.

VivoCity Sky Park

Address: 1 HarbourFront Walk

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 6 AM – 11 PM

One spot that you might not have expected is VivoCity’s Sky Park. Despite not being fully indoors, it still provides shaded places from direct sunlight.

Since VivoCity in itself is a mall, you can expect a fair amount of attractions at Sky Park, such as different ankle-deep pools that are a favorite among kids and even adults.

One of the best places to sit in the area is in the big amphitheater, which has enough seating for the whole family while also having space for your own picnic basket.

Alternatively, there are also several wooden benches in the area where you can sit, eat, and enjoy scenic views of the city from the third floor.

Having a picnic at Vivo City’s Sky Park also comes with its own convenience, as you have the option to order takeout from any of the restaurants within the mall.

Henderson Waves (Telok Blangah Hill Park)

Address: Southern Ridges

The unique Henderson Waves is another picnic spot that may only be partially indoor but still offers plenty of shade to go around.

As the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore, Henderson Waves was built to connect Mount Faber Park with the Southern Ridges, so there’s quite a trail to walk first.

With this, you’re not going to need any picnic chairs or anything bulky where you’re going since the curving surface of the bridge will suffice.

The Bridge’s awe-inspiring design coupled with the spectacular views of nature around it make this semi-indoor picnic spot well worth the hike.

It also doubles as a great point of view as the sun goes down, further making it a sight to behold while you enjoy snacks with some company.

Passion Wave (Jurong Lake Gardens)

Website: https://www.onepa.gov.sg/cc/passion-wave-jurong-lake-gardens

Address: 100 Yuan Ching Rd
Contact Details: +65 6970 4262

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday: 9 AM – 6 PM

      Monday: CLOSED

Passion Wave is known for being an outdoor venue because of its watersport activities after all. However, its recreation center can still be a picnicker’s delight.

The place’s recreation center is a big covered area that is decked with wooden planks and a view that overlooks Jurong Lake.

While this indoor picnic place doesn’t have any tables, chairs, or benches around, the management has set up designated areas for picnickers.

This means you can bring your own food and picnic mat and just lay them out in such areas while you enjoy the views that the surrounding environment has to offer.

Also, since this isn’t a truly “indoors” area apart from the roof over your head, you can still feel and inhale the fresh open air, a nice alternative to an air-conditioned room.

Flower Dome (Gardens by the Bay)

Address: 18 Marina Gardens Drive
Contact Details: +65 6420 6848

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 9 AM – 9 PM

Gardens by the Bay is hiding a pretty great picnic spot in the form of the Flower Dome, a large indoor greenhouse that houses a wide variety of flora that make a good picturesque scene.

It also holds the Guinness World Record for the largest glass greenhouse, and by that, you get to see plants and flowers from places like the Mediterranean and South Africa.

When it comes to setting up picnics in the area, you’re actually not allowed to bring picnic equipment other than a basket.

However, because of the sheer size of the place, there are still plenty of benches scattered throughout the vicinity to sit and enjoy your food while gazing at the best of the Flower Dome.

Unlike other indoor picnic spots on this list, visiting the Flower Dome comes at a price, which is S$12 for resident adults and S$8 for resident children and seniors.

Esplanade Roof Terrace

Address: Level 4, 1 Esplanade Drive
Contact Details: +65 6828 8377

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday: 6 AM – 3 AM

Esplanade Roof Terrace is known for being decorated with greenery amid its modern “durian-shaped” architecture, but its shaded areas are also fit for a semi-indoor picnic.

Located at Level 4 of the Esplanade, the Roof Terrace offers stunning views of Marina Bay Sands and the rest of the Singapore skyline.

While there are no tables on the Roof Terrace, there are several benches in partly shaded areas that you can use to set up your picnic.

Even if you don’t want to bring your own home-cooked meal to the rooftop, there are a bunch of alfresco dining areas and other restaurants at the lower levels where you can buy food.

At night when the fear of getting sunburnt is no more, the city lights take over the scene, making for a romantic picnic idea by the bay.
