Pros

  • 6-minute walk from the Telok Blangah bus stop
  • Consistent operating hours from Monday to Sunday
  • Extensive lunch and dinner buffet menu
  • Offers fresh sashimi, shabu shabu, and baked pastries
  • Affordable lunch and dinner buffet rates
  • Simple and modest atmosphere

Cons

  • Unavailable between 2:30 pm to 6 pm
  • Rates are a bit more expensive on weekends

Himawari Japanese Restaurant is situated along Alexandra Road, which is just a 6-minute stroll from the Telok Blangah bus stop. It has consistent operating hours from Monday to Sunday but is unavailable between 2:30 pm to 6 pm.

Himawari has been in the business for a little over a decade and through the years, it has gained quite a positive reputation for its extensive lunch and dinner buffet menu.

The interiors are rather simple but if your number 1 priority is the food, then this shouldn’t be a problem.

The customers we talked to liked the fresh Sashimi because of its melt-in-your-mouth consistency and the Spider Maki that’s made with soft shell crabs. These dishes are among the reasons its patrons keep going back for more.

The restaurant also provides a large variety of quality cuts, such as swordfish, yellowtail, tuna, and others. It also has its signature Ham and Cheese Croissant, which is one of the best items it has in the pastry section.

We are also pleased to discover that Himawari has a Shabu Shabu option with marbled beef included in its buffet — this additional selection usually costs extra in some restaurants.

Its rates are quite affordable and start at $41 for lunch and $45 for dinner. However, it’s a bit more expensive if you plan to dine here on the weekend.

Pros

  • Just in front of the Citimac Industrial Complex bus stop
  • Straightforward operating hours all week
  • Has several branches around Singapore
  • One of the most seasoned establishments for high-quality Japanese buffets
  • Cheap lunch and dinner buffet rates
  • Wide range of Japanese cuisine options
  • Well-known for its kushiyaki
  • Offers private function events

Cons

  • On a break from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm
  • Buffet is minimum of 2 pax

Kushi Japanese Dining is found inside Grantral Mall. It is just in front of the Citimac Industrial Complex bus stop.

It has straightforward operating hours all week but is on break from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

We also want to note that this restaurant has several branches around Singapore, making it one of the most accessible Japanese buffet restaurants on the island.

Kushi first opened its doors in 2008 and it is one of the most seasoned establishments for high-quality Japanese buffets. A group of chefs with more than 20 years of combined experience spearheads this restaurant.

In addition to offering an unlimited buffet, it has made a name for itself in Singapore as one of the best grilled skewered meat and vegetable products called Kushiyaki.

Notably, its buffet selection offers a wide range. The appetizer section has fresh edamame, salads, and Miso Soup.

Meanwhile, the mains include an assortment of sushi, rolls, and high-quality sashimi. When we talked to the customers, they all recommended Shiro Maguro and Sake as great options.

We also like that Kushi offers private functions for special events. While most Japanese buffets cater to large parties, they don’t have separate rooms.

Its classic buffet is quite cheap — it’s only $45 for lunch and $49 for dinner. However, the minimum is 2 pax, meaning you cannot dine alone here, which is quite unfortunate if you intend to treat yourself.

Having said that, Kushi has an ala carte menu for those who are planning to dine by themselves.

Pros

  • 2-minute walk from the Clarke Quay Station Exit E bus stop
  • Open daily with regular operating hours
  • Closes relatively later than its competitors
  • Provides authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price
  • Has larger portions than other buffets
  • The owner greets visitors and is present inside the restaurant

Cons

  • Unavailable between 2:30 pm to 6 pm daily
  • Usually full of customers

Mitsuba is located inside Clarke Quay Central shopping mall, which is just a 2-minute walk from the Clarke Quay Station Exit E bus stop.

It follows a regular operating schedule from Monday to Friday and closes relatively later in the evening, making it an ideal option for those who are usually busy during the day and prefer having late dinners.

Do note that it is unavailable between 2:30 pm to 6 pm daily.

Mitsuba was established in 2014 and has gained a positive reputation for providing authentic Japanese food at a reasonable price.

The lunch rate is only $20 and the dinner rate is $40, making it one of the cheapest restaurants on this list.

Customers rave about this establishment’s thick-cut sashimi and sushi, as well as the vast array of foods offered at the a la carte buffet.

The menu features the traditional roll, sashimi, temaki, ippin mono, teppanyaki, and other Japanese delicacies.

The staff provides excellent service; in fact, the restaurant’s owner personally greets the visitors, which adds to the quality of the experience.

The only downside we found is that the place cannot accommodate a large number of customers. We highly recommend calling in first and making a reservation to make sure you don’t have to wait when you get there.

Pros

  • 3-minute walk from the Pan Pacific bus stop
  • Consistent operating hours on weekends
  • Ideal for late buffet dinners
  • Elegant and posh from the interiors
  • Wide range of top quality beef and seafood options
  • Beef is sliced based on the customer’s preference

Cons

  • Unavailable from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm on weekdays
  • Expensive rates
  • Difficult to make reservations

Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ is situated inside Marina Square shopping mall, which is only a 3-minute stroll from the Pan Pacific bus stop.

Unlike other restaurants on this list, it has an irregular weekly business schedule.

On weekdays, it’s unavailable from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. But on weekends, it has consistent operating hours from 11:30 am to 10 pm, making it an ideal destination for late buffet sessions.

Off the bat, Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ is more expensive than most buffet restaurants.

Everything is elegant and posh from the interiors to the setting of the food selection.

The quality of the cuts is superior. The meat platters are hand-sliced depending on the customer’s request.

Its Premium Buffet costs $114 and customers can choose from a variety of beef cuts.

A must-try is the Wagyu Beef Short Rib and Ribeye — these two beef cuts have layers of buttery fat that give the meat a lovely melt-in-your-mouth quality.

Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ also has a variety of high-end seafood dishes like sashimi, scallops, lobsters, and oysters straight from Hokkaido.

Remember, customers must make early reservations before walking in because the restaurant is usually fully booked.

Getting a table may be difficult but it’s worth the wait if you want a premium Japanese buffet experience.

Pros

  • 2-minute walk from the Bef Mohd Sultan Road bus stop
  • Straightforward operating hours
  • Closes late
  • Easy ordering process
  • Well-known for seafood and grilled skewers
  • Relatively affordable rates

Cons

  • Unavailable from 2:30 pm to 6:15 pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 2:45 pm to 6:15 pm on Sundays
  • Orders take a little longer than other restaurants

Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant is found inside the UE Square shopping mall. It is only a 2-minute walk from the Bef Mohd Sultan Road bus stop.

Its operating hours are pretty straightforward but it is unavailable from 2:30 pm to 6:15 pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 2:45 pm to 6:15 pm on Sundays.

Having said that, it closes a bit late, making it one of the good options for those individuals who prefer late buffet dinners.

The rates are fairly reasonable as the buffet starts at $58. It is about $10 more than the usual Japanese buffet restaurant.

For those who enjoy prawns with a light batter, the Ebi Tempura is a great option. Additionally, grilled chicken intestine dishes like Grilled Liver with Sweet Soy Sauce and Grilled Chicken Gizzard are one of the best sellers here.

When we interviewed customers, the common positive feedback we gathered is that the service is much better than in other places. The ordering system is more efficient because Shin Minori uses modern tools to help streamline its procedures.

Each table has a tablet that directly connects to the kitchen and clients can order whatever they want with this simple setup.

This has some drawbacks though because the food takes a bit more time to arrive than the standard procedure followed in most restaurants.
