Interesting Facts about Coney Island

Interesting Facts about Coney Island

What makes Coney Island genuinely fascinating is its rich history.

Coney Island, also known as Pulau Serangoon, is a hidden treasure on Singapore’s northeastern coast. It spans over 50 hectares.

The island was also known as Haw Par Island in the 1930s and 1940s because it was owned by brothers Aw Boon Haw and Aw Boon Par.

The Aw brothers built a 600-square-meter home on the island, still standing today and known as the Haw Par Beach Villa.

In the past, it served as a plantation where crops like rubber and pineapple flourished.

Then during the colonial era, it became a military training ground. The remnants of this historical significance can still be seen on the island today.

Fast forward to the present day, Coney Island has undergone a remarkable transformation.

The island has been meticulously developed into a stunning park, preserving its natural splendor and providing a sanctuary for visitors.

As a local who previously visited this island, I can attest that it offers a harmonious blend of conservation and recreation.

As a local who has explored this haven, I am inspired by the sustainable practices implemented on this Island.

Witnessing this rhythmic cycle firsthand, I couldn’t help but reflect on the importance of conserving water in our daily lives.

Another eco-friendly feature that caught my attention is the park’s use of solar-powered lights. Since there is a considerable effort to conserve the Island, there is no power supply.

As dusk descends upon Coney Island Park, the pathways remain beautifully illuminated, courtesy of the sun’s energy.

But what truly sets Coney Island Park apart from other Singaporean parks is its innovative use of recycled materials in its infrastructure.
