This charming little church was built in the 1920s and is named after the one and only Teresa of Ávila, a Spanish Carmelite nun from the 16th century.

Legend has it that she was so in tune with the divine that she could levitate while deep in prayer. Talk about goosebumps!

The Church of the Sacred Heart is named after the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a symbol of God’s boundless love and compassion.

But the church is dedicated to none other than Saint Augustine of Hippo, the patron saint of brewers!

This sacred architectural building has been standing tall since the 1900s, witnessing the flow of time in Singapore.

There are also a lot of claims that miracles have unfolded right before the eyes of believers in this church, such as getting better from illness a day after the novena, giving financial blessings to the poor, and passing some examinations.  

4. Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator

The Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator is one of the oldest Christian churches in Singapore.

This place has stood tall since 1835, witnessing centuries of history unfold before its walls.

In the early 19th century, Singapore was filled with traders from all corners of the globe converging on its shores.

Among them is a group of Armenian merchants who, feeling a little homesick and longing for a place to worship, decided to build their own church on the island.

Saint Gregory, the patron saint of the Armenian Apostolic Church, converted Armenia to Christianity in the 4th century.

That’s why Armenians who built the church were so grateful for the divine intervention that they honored him by naming their beloved place of worship after him.

The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most popular churches in the country due to its miraculous healings, such as unexplained cancer and comatose recoveries after a faithful prayer from the church.

These miraculous encounters sparked a series of events that led to Lourdes becoming one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in the world.

Meanwhile, another theory suggests that the devotees dedicated the place to Our Lady’s apparitions, where the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared multiple times to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous in a small village in France in 1858.

It was named after the patron saint of fathers, workers, and good laborers. 

Back in the day, a group of Italian missionaries decided to set up shop in Singapore and a new church.

They figured that since they were running a business, why not name it after the saint of labor? 

The church gained a reputation as a protector because back in the early days, as foretold, it calmed the great storm shortly after a group of devotees prayed in the sanctuary.
