During our visit, we’ve savored every delicious dish imaginable– chicken rice, bak kut teh, and tau sar piah – and we already want to dive in for seconds. 

After returning home and recovering from our satisfying food coma, we immediately wanted to recount our adventures and share them with our dear readers. 

With the pork floss tofu still lingering in our tongues, let’s take a look at how to make the most out of your visit to Balestier Road below.

Balestier is a popular road in the buzzing neighborhood of Novena (things to do in Novena Singapore), where throngs of various shops thrive in this very spot. 

From traditional bakeries to furniture stores, Balestier feels like pulling a rabbit out of a magician’s hat, surprising you with every unexpected discovery. 

It also has an old-world charm, transporting its visitors to the earlier days of Singapore.

Closest bus station: It’s best to get to Balestier Road using the bus. Look out for buses 21, 130, 131, 145, or 186 that stop along this road.

In the midst of Balestier Road’s popular attractions lies verdant spaces where visitors can take a reprieve from all the chaos. 

Located in the middle of Zhongshan Mall and several Balestier hotspots, Zhongshan Park is a relaxing destination where you can take a leisurely stroll while appreciating the lovely sights. 

They even host events here every now and then, so be on the lookout for those!

Shaw Theaters is Balestier’s very own cinema, recently renovated to provide an enhanced experience to all moviegoers. It feels luxurious as if you were walking in the hallways of a sophisticated hotel.

Whampoa Color Centre is one of the most trusted photo labs of the locals for its expertise and meticulousness when taking care of your films. 

The aunty and uncle there are quite knowledgeable. In fact, we don’t mind spending hours there chatting with them and learning about their expertise. 

If you’re a complete beginner, they can surely show you the ropes! From inserting your film to knowing what film to choose, they can guide you without making you feel intimidated. 

As the cherry on top, we were impressed by the quality of the scans and the expert color correction when we got our films developed by them.

You don’t have to be an expert to be able to enjoy their offerings because knowledgeable sellers can help you jumpstart your newfound hobby. 

Expect a lot of local and international selections for extremely affordable prices. Be forewarned: you might leave the shop carrying more items than what you initially intended to purchase!

Specializing in delicious chicken rice, Loy Kee is a go-to of many locals seeking a satisfying meal.

While this filling dish remains the top choice of Loy Kee regulars, their other options are also worth the try. For something equally comforting, we recommend the Loy Kee special house porridge.

Looking straight out of a Hong Kong film, the basement is an even more hip haunt, so do consider getting a seat there when you get the chance.
